The C-Class Cabriolet was the first, proper, open-top C-Class in history. It was introduced a year after its sibling, the C-Class Coupe.

Before the C-Class Cabriolet, Mercedes-Benz tried a mix of C-Class platform (from the W203 generation) with an E-Class inspired bodywork (W211 generation), and the result was named CLK (A209). That recipe didn’t work, so the German carmaker introduced a proper C-Class convertible in 2016, based on the same platform as the C-Class W204. For a sportier look, it featured standard 17″ light-alloy wheels and 19″ as an option.

The Cabriolet came with H7 halogen headlamps fitted as standard, and two LED variants as options: one with simple illumination and a “LED Intelligent Light System” with Adaptive Highbeam Assist that switched from low to high-beam depending on the traffic ahead.

Inside, a centrally positioned free-standing display was available with 7″ as standard and an 8.4″ screen available for the COMMAND Online optional unit. An optional head-up display displayed information directly into the driver’s field of vision in front of the windscreen. It displayed the current speed, posted speed limits, navigation instructions, and DISTRONIC messages – depending on the selected settings.

Mercedes-Benz offered a wide choice of engines for the C-Class Cabriolet, ranged between the 1.6-liter and 156 hp and the outrageous 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 that offered 333 hp for the AMG 43 version. The carmaker didn’t forget about the diesel-lovers and installed a 2.2-liter turbodiesel in the engine bay, with a power output rated between 170 and 204 hp.
