    Vehicle Overview

Porsche introduced the 718 Cayman T in late 2018 for the 2020 model year, giving customers a complete package of upgrades that were applied to the base version of the model.

The German sports car manufacturer had a long history of producing T-versions of its cars. These were a mix of lower-spec engine versions combined with upgrades carried over from their more powerful siblings. So, the Cayman T followed the same route. It was, in essence, a base version of the Cayman, but with all the bells and whistles available for the Cayman S. But then there were a few things specific for the T. For instance, the 20-millimeter (0.8 of an inch) drop of the suspension couldn’t be ordered for the entry-level version of the car. Then, there were a few bits and pieces that were specifically applied just for the T.

At the front, the automaker installed new headlights carried over from the Cayman GTS. They featured a black background that made the four dots of the LED daytime running lights look brighter. Underneath them, on the upper side of the bumper, the automaker placed the parking lights, which doubled as turn signals. Then, there was the T-specific apron. It had a similar design to the one installed on the Cayman GTS, albeit with body-colored oblique slats.

From its profile, the car’s low-slung silhouette looked meaner thanks to the suspension carried over from the GTS. In addition, when optioned with the 20-inch black alloy wheels, it looked ready to tackle any winding road in the world. To further emphasize this specific version, Porsche added a set of decals that crossed the car from the front to the rear fenders over the lower side of the door panels, featuring two lines and the Cayman T lettering. Also, a dark set of door-mirror caps and struts that supported them completed the image of this unique version of Porsche’s smallest sports car. Finally, at the back, below the bumper and neatly integrated into the valance, the automaker placed a dual exhaust, also unavailable for the standard Cayman.

Moving inside, customers discovered a cabin that carried over some of the most significant details from other Porsche go-fast vehicles. The red pull-straps that opened the doors and the available Sport-Tex upholstery that covered the center areas of the high-bolstered seats with integrated headrests offered a race-inspired atmosphere. Furthermore, the stereo was a no-cost option, so buyers had to decide whether they wanted to listen to the engine or their favorite tracks. Fronting the driver was the same three-dial instrument cluster where the tachometer took center stage. On its left was the speedometer, while on the right was a 4.6-inch color display. Porsche also offered the options for standard or sports seats.

Behind the cabin, Porsche installed the same 2.0-liter flat-four turbocharged engine as on the Cayman. Its variable turbine geometry helped it get maximum torque just a stint above 2,000 rpm. It was paired with a standard six-speed manual transmission. As an option, customers could get a seven-speed automatic (dual-clutch) PDK gearbox. The rear mechanical rear differential lock was standard.
