    Vehicle Overview

After the 2003 update, Lincoln refreshed again the third generation of the Lincoln Town Car in 2007, but with just minor touches here and there to keep it attractive for its traditional customers.

While the world financial crisis ripped automaker’s budgets, Lincoln knew that it could still rely on its traditional customers. Even though it had already started refreshing the rest of the lineup and a new flagship model was on the way, the Town Car was still at the top of the manufacturer’s sedans lineup. With its old-school body-on-frame construction, naturally aspirated V8 under the hood, and an available long-wheelbase option, the Town Car was still requested by deep-pocket customers who preferred classic American luxury vehicles. However, the 2008 Lincoln Town Car was the kind of vehicle that could blend all the old-school elements with modern technologies and still look attractive for both old and new buyers.

The styling of the 2008 Lincoln Town car was dominated at the front by the broad, shield-like chromed grille. In addition, the automaker added a stand-up Lincoln hood ornament for all trims. At the same time, the quad-beam halogen lamps were standard for most trims, while a set of high-intensity-discharge ones was optional for specific grades. Another upgraded part was the front bumper, which sported a redesigned apron featuring a broad air intake with horizontal slats flanked by rectangular, horizontal fog lamps.

Lincoln offered the 2008 Town Car in four grades: Signature, Signature Limited, Designer, and Signature L. The first three shared the same bodywork and wheelbases, while the last version was longer. In addition, the automaker offered a fleet-only version named Executive L with the same chassis as the Signature L. Regardless of the trim level, all models came with standard 17-inch aluminum wheels with 10 or 12 spokes. At the back, the automaker added a chromed trim that surrounded the license plate holder, emphasizing the car’s luxury status. Furthermore, the automaker offered the option for a power opening and closing of the trunk’s lid. Just like the 2004 model year, the 2008 version came with dual exhausts neatly concealed by the rear bumper.

Inside, the dashboard was dominated by a flat, genuine American walnut burl wood trim interrupted by the center vents and the eight-inch color screen of the infotainment unit. That was part of the tech package gained by the third generation of the Town Car. If the infotainment unit option wasn’t ticked, the car boasted an elegant analog clock between the center vents. The driver fronted a modern-looking instrument panel where the automaker installed large dials for the speedometer and tachometer, smaller gauges for the fuel level and coolant temperature, and an information panel with warning lights for various functions of the vehicle. The 40/20/40 front bench seat was still available, while two bucket seats with a wide center console setup were on the options list. In the back, customers enjoyed ample 45.4-inch (115 cm) of legroom.

Under the hood was one of Ford’s best engines from those times. Even though it wasn’t the most potent in the carmaker’s inventory, the 4.6-liter naturally aspirated unit was smooth and provided plenty of torque from lower revs. It was paired with a four-speed automatic gearbox that sent all the oomph to the rear wheels. However, the automaker focused on safety and added disc brakes in all corners.
