Lincoln introduced the Mark LT on the market in 2005 as a 2006 model year, trying to get inside the niche segment of luxury pickup trucks, where it had to compete against the Cadillac Escalade EXT.
While pickup trucks were created to help farmers haul their stuff on the field and back, that market segment expanded over time. Soon, contractors, workers, and private individuals found the advantages of owning such a vehicle. Not only that they could carry bulky items in their beds, but they could also town heavy trailers. Then, the cabins were updated with more comfort features since customers asked for more. As a result, premium automakers felt that they could provide something more. As a result, Lincoln made the 2001 Blackwood, which was based on the notorious F150, but the results were far below expectations. Then, in 2005, Ford’s luxury brand tried again with the Mark LT.
Sharing the front fascia with the already successful Lincoln Navigator was a plus for the 2006 Lincoln Mark LT. Its broad cascade grille with chromed vertical slats created a commanding look on the road. In addition, the rectangular headlights offered an image that customers knew. Last but not least, the automaker integrated a set of fog lamps into the chromed bumper.
From its profile up to the B-pillar, the luxurious pickup shared its panels with the Navigator SUV. Its flared front fenders and the chromed door mirror caps created a luxurious look for the vehicle. In addition, Lincoln offered side steps for easier ingress and egress to the cabin. At the back, the greenhouse ended with almost vertical C-posts that clearly delimited the cargo area from the passenger one. The bed behind it was separated from the cabin so as not to send vibrations through the bodywork. Their only connection was via the sturdy chassis underneath. Out back, the automaker placed a tilt-down tailgate flanked by corner-mounted taillights like on a regular pickup. Finally, to match the luxurious status of the vehicle, Lincoln added a chromed bumper.
Inside, customers could find a luxurious cabin wrapped in metal, leather, and rich Ebony wood. Fronting the driver was a rounded-shaped instrument panel where the speedometer took center stage. It was flanked on its left by the rev counter, while on the right were the ammeter and the oil pressure gauge. The 2006 Lincoln Mark LT came with a 6-cd in-dash CD changer and an Audiophile Sound System. Above the passengers, the automaker installed an additional console that housed reading lights and a storage bin. Furthermore, it featured a seven-inch flip-down LCD screen for a DVD player. Even though the car could carry five people onboard, it was mostly made for four, with ample legroom and headroom for everybody.
Under the hood, the automaker installed a 5.4-liter V8 engine with three valves per cylinder carried over from its Ford F150 sibling. It sent 300 hp (304 PS) to the rear axle or in all corners, depending on the options, via a four-speed automatic transmission. The double-wishbone front suspension and the rear axle provided comfort and endurance over rough terrain. Ford’s luxury brand also thought about safety and equipped the 2006 Lincoln Mark LT with four-wheel disc brakes with ABS.
