Chevrolet refreshed the sixth generation of the Camaro in 2018 for the 2019 model year, and as expected, the Convertible version of it also received an upgrade like its Coupe sibling.
GM launched the sixth generation of the Camaro in 2015 for the 2016 model year, and customers were mostly pleased with the beautiful vehicle. However, some areas needed more improvement, especially in the interior design and some features and amenities. As a result, the automaker’s team burned the midnight oil to improve the lineup with various new features and design cues to make customers return to one of the most coveted nameplates in Chevy’s inventory. The 2019 Chevrolet Camaro Convertible had a refreshed front clip, improved drivetrains, and upgraded interiors. However, the 2020 pandemic affected sales even more, which forced GM to pull the plug on the entire model in December 2023 without an immediate replacement.
The redesigned front fascia was a clear improvement over the 2016 model year. Chevrolet installed a taller upper grille than on its non-facelifted sibling. Depending on the trim and options, this was expanded downwards by a lower broad air intake. At the same time, the 2019 Chevrolet Camaro Convertible could be fitted with a body-colored bumper that splits the grilles in two. On the lower side of the bumper, the automaker placed a pair of vertical side scoops with narrow air intakes, which enhanced aerodynamics and improved the brake’s cooling.
For the 2019 model year, the Camaro Convertible came with the same long hood, which was now available with a powerdome across the range. In addition, behind the wheel arches, the automaker installed the Camaro-specific red-white-blue crests. The same thick A-pillars as on the previous version of the car created the image of an aerodynamic vehicle. One of the car’s most important aspects was that it looked almost like a Coupe when the retractable canopy was up. At the back, the automaker installed new taillights resembling those installed on the 1968 Chevrolet Camaro, with two areas and C-shaped red light stripes around them. Another improvement was noticed at the back of the car, where GM installed a new bumper with dual or quad-exhausts, depending on the trim and options.
Inside, customers found a new, more modern cabin design. The first three grades, the LS, the 1LT, and the 2LT, had a standard seven-inch touchscreen infotainment unit featuring Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. From the 3LT grade and up, the automaker installed an eight-inch touch-sensitive display. Chevrolet made the 2019 Camaro Convertible available with a choice of two fabric upholstery and five leather-covered chairs. The top-spec version, the ZL1, featured standard Recaro bucket seats. In the back, the bench seat profiled for two barely provided any legroom for those seated there, mostly useful as additional storage.
The 2019 Chevrolet Camaro Convertible was available with a choice of four engines: a two-liter inline-four, a V6, a naturally aspirated V8, and a supercharged V8 unit. All versions were paired as standard with a six-speed manual transmission, while an eight- or a ten-speed automatic gearbox was on the option list. The latter was for the 1SS, the 2SS, and the ZL1.
