After the introduction of the Insignia’s first generation at the London Motor Show in 2008, the British brand had to refresh the model and also added a new version for it.

Even though the world financial crisis was over, Vauxhall was in deep financial problems along with its German sibling Opel. Both were part of the GM and suffered from slow sales. They marginally dodged the bullet of being acquired by a Russian bank. But, in 2013, the automaker saw the opportunity of increasing its sales and attracting more customers with the addition of a raised version of the Insignia, its flagship model. The new addition to the lineup wore the Country Tourer nameplate.

With an increased ground clearance by 0.8″ (20 mm), the Insignia Country Tourer offered much confidence when going over unpaved roads. To further enhance the car’s rugged look, Vauxhall installed anthracite-colored cladding on the lower side of the body, side sills, and front and rear bumpers. In addition, the carmaker added tinted headlights that sported LED daytime running lights fitted as standard.

The cabin sported a specific trim level with better upholstery than the base Insignia version. Inside the instrument cluster, Vauxhall installed a mixed instrument panel with an LCD and regular gauge that flanked it. To furthermore enhance the driving experience, the Insignia Country Tourer got an infotainment system fitted as standard, which could support both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

But Vauxhall didn’t want to provide just an off-road look but with just on-road capabilities, so it fitted this version exclusively with an all-wheel-drive system. Under the hood, the automaker installed a range of turbocharged gasoline and diesel engines.
