The French automaker introduced a facelifted model for the entire 19 range, covering the sportier-looking three-door version.

Renault already knew that the 19 was on its way out from the assembly lines, especially in the hatchback version, such as the three-door model. Yet, it still tried to keep the vehicle alive and expand the car’s market share. Meanwhile, most of its competitors had already introduced new models into their lineups.

While its siblings with four or five doors were mostly family vehicles, the three-door had difficulty convincing customers that it was a sporty hatchback. Because it wasn’t, but that didn’t stop the automaker from creating a new front fascia. The re-shaped headlights rounded on their inboard, and the redesigned grille sported bio-design era inspiration. The three-door 19 offered wider doors and large rear windows from its profile. At the back, the car’s new smoked taillights looked sportier than on the non-facelifted version.

Inside, the dashboard was still angular-shaped but with softer materials and rounded corners. The ventilation system featured rectangular vents placed on the center stack and on the sides of the dashboard. Last but not least, the two-spoke steering wheel was new, and unlike on the previous model, it didn’t look that harsh anymore.

Under the hood, Renault brought a very wide engine range, gasoline, and turbo-diesel. However, the 1.8-liter unit was new, while the 1.7-liter powerplant was at the end of its career.
