Ferrari decided to give a targa shape for the 355, but it couldn’t name it like anyone else, just as Targa. It named-it GTS.

When the regular, mid-engined coupe F355 was no longer enough for those looking for a special Ferrari, the Italian carmaker offered the GTS version. It wasn’t that sporty anymore since it had to reinforce the chassis, but it wasn’t as flimsy as the cabriolet. It was almost as successful as the Spyder version.

The exterior look was beautiful and compact. The short front trunk-lid was continued in an ascending line with the windshield, a removable roof panel, and then there was a descending panel toward the rear of the car. From the side, it looked like it was the rear side windows of the cabin, but the panels were outside the cabin. They were there only to enhance the lateral aerodynamic.

Inside, it had leather everywhere: seats, door panels, center console, dashboard, and even behind the seats. It was one way to tell the owners why the price tag was that high. The removable roof-panel could have been stored behind the seats and installed very fast, but the car had to be stopped, and the driver had to step down to mount it.

On the center console, the F355 had the suspension setting. The F355 was the first Ferrari to had an adjustable suspension. It had a switch with two positions: off and Sport. The 6+1 pattern for the gearshift lever gate was crafted in metal, and it was virtually impossible to miss a gear. That was another signature design for the Ferrari brand.
