Fiat already gained some respect in the European market, and it was an absolute leader for the sales in Italy.

Various car brands had started the production of civilian vehicles needed for recovery after the war. Fiat, as one of the most important industrial groups in Italy, launched the 505 in 1919. It became an instant hit since there was a need for transportation. Its main problems were the brakes and the suspension, which tended to break on bad roads. In 1926, Fiat fixed the problem and installed better suspension and brakes in the new 507 models.

The car was available in various shapes or as a chassis only so that the owner could order the bodywork from multiple suppliers. Its platform was used for ambulances, trucks, buses, police cars, or delivery vans. For civilian use, the carmaker offered closed bodywork with fixed panels, doors, and windows. An open-top version was available as well.

The engine for the 507 was carried over from the 505 but improved. It had a 2.3-liter displacement but had 35 hp instead of 30 hp like the 505. The transmission was a 4-speed manual.

The commercial success of the 507 was diminished since it was just between the cheaper 505 and the luxurious 520, built at the same time. Considering this, the 507 was sold in only 3700 units, compared with the 30.000 units of the 505 or 20.000 units for the 520. The price for the 507 was too high for the masses, and the features it offered were too few for the upper-class clients.
