    Vehicle Overview

While it didn’t dominate drag strips, the Camaro SS Convertible was that kind of a special blend that mixed the performance of the newest and most potent small-block engine made by Chevrolet with the beauty of a drop-top bodywork.

Chevrolet didn’t want to follow the same steps as Ford when it developed the Camaro. Unlike the Mustang, the bow-tie branded pony car was not offered with a fastback bodywork. It was only produced as a three-box sedan or as an open-top vehicle. However, that didn’t stop the car manufacturer from installing its newest small-block engine under the vehicle’s hood and providing more miles per smile to the cars’ owners than on the rest of the range.

Just like its coupe sibling featuring the L48 option from the RPO list, the 1967 Chevrolet Camaro Super Sport Convertible was built to show its muscles even when it was standing still. Its front fascia was slightly different than the rest of the range. Besides the round headlights, the automaker also installed standard round fog lights mounted inside the grille on the inner sides of the headlamps. In addition, the car was available with the Rally Sport package that featured the hideaway caps covering the headlights. In addition, the cowl-induction hood was adorned by fake louvers.

From its profile, the 1967 Chevrolet Camaro Convertible SS was available with a stripe in contrasting color than the rest of the vehicle, known as the Bumblebee stripe. On the front fenders, above the corners of the front bumper, that line was interrupted to allow the manufacturer to install the SS badges. Moving on to the doors, the automaker installed triangular swing windows beside the regular, cranked ones. However, the iconic coke bottle design for the rear quarter panels was kept in place so that the automaker could lower production costs. The fully retractable canvas top could be stored behind the rear seats.

Inside, multiple options were available for the 1967 Chevrolet Camaro SS Convertible, but the floor-mounted shifter was the one that mattered the most. Customers could order the vehicle with a Sports Console featuring three round dials for the fuel, temperature, oil pressure, ammeter gauges, and an electric clock. On the center stack, the automaker placed the controls for the HVAC system, although the AC was not standard. The front bucket seats were vinyl-wrapped and available with a contrasting stripe, depending on the options. In the back, the automaker placed a bench seat for two, with side-mounted armrests for the Luxury package. Fronting the driver was a two-dial instrument panel with binocular styling showing the speedometer, tachometer, and a few warning lights.

Under the hood, Chevrolet offered a wide engine range, including the 350 Turbo-Fire V8 small-block engine. It was paired as standard with a three-speed manual gearbox. However, the car manufacturer also offered buyers to get the four-speed Muncie manual transmission or the legendary two-speed Powerglide gearbox.
