1974 FIAT Campagnola 2.0

Vehicle Overview

Initially designed for military purposes, the Campagnola was later released for the public.

Unveiled for the first time in a civilian version in 1974 at the Belgrade Motor Show, the Fiat 1107 Campagnola was a pure off-road vehicle based an entirely new concept.

Equipped with a load-bearing body, the Campagnola still offered considerable ground clearance, compared to the previous model. The vehicle also featured independent torsion bar suspensions and self-locking differentials on all four wheels.

The 2.0-lier gasoline engine derived for the Fiat 131 and 132 was simplified and weakened, offering a maximum power of 80 hp and 150 Nm.

In 1979, the body was further strengthened and the model featured a new Diesel engine, a 2445 cmc with a maximum output of 72 hp and 147 Nm.

To lower the fuel consumption, the old 4-speed gearbox was replaced by a 5-speed transmission, thus higher torque was available at lower speeds.

The 1974 Campagnola had a top speed of over 120 km/h, while the newer version could reach up to 115 km/h.

Heavy towing was one of the Campagnola’s strongest points, thanks to the very short reduced ratios.

With the possibility of equipping the 1107 Campagnola Nova with first aid equipment, it could have served as an ambulance.

In 1976, a few vehicles were produced in collaboration with Renault, featuring the Renault type 829 engine. It was sold under the name Renault TRM 500.
