Honda enjoyed big success with the previous generations of the Accord Coupe, so it tried to keep the momentum and introduced a new generation of these two-door, sporty-looking sedans in 1998 for the U.S. market, while the Europeans got it a year later.

Unlike the Prelude, which was made for those who didn’t need rear seats, the Accord Coupe targeted customers who needed some room in the back for two adults. It was also an appreciated vehicle for empty-nesters. The car was designed in Los Angeles, built in Maryland, Ohio, and exported to Europe after being adapted for the Old Continent. But customers loved it anyway. Its upscale look, friendly interior, and reckoned reliability made the 1999 Accord Coupe a sought-after vehicle for those who wanted to enjoy long travels without complaining about pains and fear that they’ll be left stranded on the road due to some malfunctions. Furthermore, the car’s smooth engines proved to be fuel-efficient, especially those with four cylinders. The V6, on the other hand, had other advantages, especially in the performance department.

With its slim and wide headlights, the 1999 Accord Coupe showed a sporty but not aggressive stance. Between them, the automaker placed a slightly taller grille than on its predecessor and had enough room to install the brand’s logo. Previously, the chromed H-badge was on the hood. Lower, on the wrapped-around plastic bumper, Honda put a wide air intake that increased the cooling capacity. As an option, customers could opt for a pair of fog lamps.

Honda made the Accord Coupe suitable as a daily driver vehicle for long distances, but it was also easy to drive in towns. Its low-slung profile was adorned by an ascending waistline that started from the headlights and went all the way to the back, on the taillights. The greenhouse was short, and the triangular windows behind the long doors couldn’t be opened. In the back, the taillights had taller outer sides and were visually connected by a red stripe that crossed the trunk’s lid. They resembled those from the famous Honda NSX supercar and were much appreciated by customers.

Inside, the 1999 Honda Accord Coupe had something for every taste. The lower grades were fitted with bolstered bucket seats at the front and velour upholstery. At the other end of the scale, the top trim level featured a leather-clad interior. In addition, the automatic climate control, the CD stereo, and the sunroof were available as standard for the 3.0-liter V6 version or as an option for the lower grades. The driver fronted a rounded instrument cluster resembling the one from the 1994 model year of the Accord Coupe but with the same layout principle.

Under the hood, Honda installed a choice of three gasoline engines, like the previous generation of the Accord Coupe. It paired them with either a five-speed manual or a four-speed automatic. As expected, the two-liter version was the most fuel-efficient, while the top dog was powered by a three-liter V6 powerplant.
