    Vehicle Overview

Honda refreshed the entire lineup of the seventh generation of the Accord in late 2005, and even if the station wagon-shaped version was just two years old, it also received that update.

The Accord was no longer that humble vehicle that could provide some comfort and peace of mind to its customers. It was a fully-fledged mid-size contender that could take on the best in the business and gap them. However, it had one particular problem: a short range of engines. Even though these were some of the best inline-four powerplants on the market, customers always wanted to have more options. In addition, vehicles with over two-liter displacement engines were heavily taxed in selected countries (such as Portugal, Italy, and Greece, to name just a few). While the facelift didn’t solve that problem, it solved other issues and also came with an updated design.

At the front, the sharp-looking headlights, with their angular and aggressive styling, received clear lenses with integrated turn signal lamps on their outer corners. The previously used pentagonal-shaped grille was replaced by a new one that was wider and sported a pair of slats that supported the brand’s badge, which took center stage. Below, in the apron, the car manufacturer installed a broad air intake in the middle flanked by genuine side scoops that cooled the front rotors.

From its profile, the 2005 Honda Accord Tourer revealed the designers’ idea to trade look for practicality. Instead of creating a raked-forward tailgate as for the previous generation of the Accord station wagon, it made a vertical drop for that. As a result, the long-roof version of the Accord’s seventh generation didn’t look that much sporty. However, the automaker didn’t cut corners, and behind the B-post, there were no body panels or windows shared with the sedan version of the vehicle. Furthermore, Honda installed a third row of broad windows between the rear doors and the D-pillars. A set of roof rails and an electric-operated tailgate were also available. Under the rear bumper, the car manufacturer placed a single or dual exhaust, depending on the engine version.

Honda made its mid-size station wagon contender for the European market in three grades, where the Executive was the one that ticked all the boxes. For the base version, the 2005 Honda Accord Tourer came with cloth upholstery and a basic sound system, while the upper grades received leather seats and an infotainment unit fitted with a color screen placed on the center stack. Behind, on the 60/40 split-folding bench seat, there was enough room for three adults. The 50 mm (2 inches) longer wheelbase led to increased legroom for those seated in the back. Thanks to the 575 liters (20.3 cu-ft) trunk space, customers could store anything a family would need on a daily basis. They could lower the rear seats and obtain up to 1,707 liters (60.3 cu-ft) of storage area if they needed more.

Under the hood, Honda installed a choice of two gasoline and one turbodiesel engine. The 2.0-liter spark-ignited version was the only one available with a five-speed manual transmission, while the other two were fitted with a six-speed manual. At the same time, the oil burner was unavailable with the five-speed automatic gearbox provided by the other two powerplants.
