Mitsubishi introduced an open-top version for its small-sized Colt in 2005, aimed at the Peugeot 206 CC customers.

Mitsubishi made its first coupe-cabriolet based on the small-sized Colt vehicle and launched it in late 2005. Even though the carmaker said that it was developed together with the Italians from the Pininfarina design studio, the end result was not one of the best on the market. To make things even more complicated, the parts were stamped in the Netherlands and then shipped to Italy for the final assembly.

When Peugeot made the 206 lineup, it considered an open-top version for it right from the start, so the end result was quite appreciated. Mitsubishi, on the other hand, made the Colt starting in 2002, and later on, it made the coupe-cabriolet version for it. At the front, the triangular headlights and the slim grille looked similar to those installed on the regular Colt. The profile, on the other hand, was a completely different story. With the top down, it was fine even though the windshield was extended over the front half of the cabin. With the top up, on the other hand, the car lost all its appeal. Since it was very short, the designers had to create a smaller rear windscreen and roof panel so they could fit in the trunk. Moreover, the trunk’s lid was very short. Finally, at the back, the taillights somehow sweetened the design.

The cabin featured two bucket seats at the front and a bench in the rear. Yet, there was almost no legroom for rear passengers. Still, the dashboard was fine, being carried over from the regular Colt and adorned with silver trims and buttons.

Under the hood, Mitsubishi placed a choice of gasoline-powered engines and paired them to a five-speed manual transmission.
