    Peugeot wasn’t a great MPV maker, but it helped build small hatchbacks and station-wagons like the 2008 308 SW.

    With a crashed MPV segment, the compact station-wagons were rising, and Peugeot was there to offer a new model just before the world collapsed due to the financial crisis. Its idea was to offer a leisure vehicle fit for five adults and a decent-sized trunk. It managed to do that based on the PF2 platform.

    Like its regular hatchback, the SW version featured a V-shaped power-dome on the hood connecting the front slat to the A-pillars. The semi-tall profile with a higher greenhouse. The car’s back was unusually designed, with a bump on the metallic part of the tailgate allowing the carmaker to increase the trunk area and the loading length without spoiling the car’s shape. Its raked D-pillar was unique on the market.

    Inside, the carmaker was able to install five seating positions with enough legroom thanks to the higher seating position. As an option, a panoramic glass-roof was on the options list and made the interior even brighter. The split-folding seatback allowed a trunk increase from a standard 674 liters (23.8 cu-ft) to a cavernous 2149 liters (75.9 cu-ft).

    Under the hood, Peugeot offered the 308SW with a wide range of engines ranged between 90 hp and 156 hp, both gasoline and turbo-diesel.
