Maserati introduced the fifth-generation of its flagship model, the Quattroporte, in 2003 and prepared few upgrades over the years, such as the 2009 Sport GT S version.

Maserati was known for its high-performance GT vehicles and the presidential limousines provided for the Italian Government. Usually, these two areas were not combined, but there were some exceptions, such as the Sport GT S version. It wasn’t a race-car, but it wasn’t a limousine either. More appropriate was to call it a sport-exec-sedan.

The 2009 Maserati Quattroporte looked more aggressive due to its new LED daytime running lights installed inside the headlamps. Its grille with vertical slats and the trident badge in the middle distinguished itself among the rest of the premium sedans from its class. It was a car designed by Pininfarina studios, which used flowing lines to create a sideline inspired by other Maserati GT vehicles and included the trident badge on the C-pillars. The Italian carmaker prepared a special package with specific multi-spoke 19″ light-alloy wheels for the Sport GT S version. The carmaker decreased the ground clearance for even more drama when it installed sport suspension for the special edition.

Under the hood, the Italian engineers tuned the Ferrari-sourced V-engine to provide more ponies. Thanks to the 440 hp and the 6-speed automatic gearbox, the Quattroporte Sport GT S could rocket from 0 to 100 kph (0-62 mph) in 5.1 seconds and, unlike its main European rivals, it could go up to 285 kph (177 mph).
