    Vehicle Overview

Dodge introduced the seventh generation of the Charger in 2010, although it was mostly seen by many as just a major update for the sixth generation of this nameplate.

The return of the Charger nameplate happened in 2005 during the DaimlerChrysler alliance. Then, the LX Charger was built on top of a platform that shared elements with German vehicles such as the Mercedes-Benz E- and S-Class. It also shared the platform with its Chrysler sibling, the 300C.

When the four-door coupes started to be relevant on the market, DaimlerChrysler considered that it was the right time to unveil a four-door sedan with a sloped greenhouse that resembled the second generation of the Charger from the ’60s. Moreover, the design team gave the car a very aggressive front fascia dominated by angry-looking headlights. These visual elements were continued on the 2010 Charger (LD). But at the back, the rear quarter panels didn’t sport the same muscular stance as its predecessor. Instead, they followed the same continuous ascending beltline that started from the front of the vehicle towards the rear end.

During the DaimlerChrysler alliance, Dodge understood that creating a beautiful car and giving it a cheap-looking interior is not something customers would agree with. So, the automaker focused more on the materials’ quality for the LD Charger. Furthermore, it added the Uconnect infotainment system with a touch-screen display that stood atop the center stack at about the same level as the instrument cluster. Between the front bucket seats, the Charger featured a tall center console where the automatic transmission shifter and two cupholders shared the space. Meanwhile, the rear seats gained some extra room for passengers. Still, there was a tall transmission tunnel between the seats, but the bench was perfectly capable of hosting three adults.

Under the hood, Dodge installed a choice of V6 and V8 engines with either rear or all-wheel drive. In addition to the previously known five-speed automatic, it added a new eight-speed automatic gearbox.
