    Vehicle Overview

It was the last stint for the station wagon version of the eighth generation of the Honda Accord before the model was withdrawn from the European market, but it didn’t go out without a final update.

While in the U.S., the Accord was rocking the sales and was a serious challenger in its segment, in Europe, it struggled to survive. The narrow engine range, the lack of all-wheel drive systems, and many other aspects made the Accord a hard-to-sell vehicle. To add insult to injury, the world financial crisis hit the Japanese automaker even harder, while the last straw was the introduction of the Euro 6 emission standards in 2015. For Honda, it wasn’t worth the trouble to upgrade the Accord when sales figures were far lower than the minimum it needed to keep the car profitable. Furthermore, the Accord Tourer’s sales were even worse, so Honda decided to pull the plug on the model. Even though the Japanese car manufacturer knew all these, it still facelifted the car in both shapes: the Sedan and the Tourer (station wagon).

One of the areas where the 2011 Honda Accord Tourer was mildly improved was the front fascia, where the car received new headlights featuring daytime running lights. In addition, the grille between them was adorned by two horizontal slats (instead of three as on its non-facelifted sibling) and a thick chromed rim. On the lower side of the bumper, the secondary air intake was trapezoidal instead of the reversed trapezoidal one installed in the 2008 model year.

These modifications were challenging to spot. However, the car featured new door mirrors with integrated turn signal lamps. The door handles were still chromed, trying to create a more upscale look for the 2011 Honda Accord Tourer. Surprisingly, some wheels were still the same as on the non-facelifted version, even though those were the easiest to replace. At the back, the raked-forward tailgate was power activated as standard, while on the non-refreshed model, that was available only as an option. Under the rear bumper, the car sported either one or dual exhausts, with side-mounted pipes, depending on the engine.

Inside, the 2011 Honda Accord Tourer kept its original interior garnished with high-quality materials, above the standards of mass-market vehicles. The infotainment screen was neatly integrated into the upper side of the dashboard, closer to the windshield than to the driver. It wasn’t touch-sensitive and could be controlled via a thumb-sized rotary knob placed on the center stack. Honda installed comfortable bolstered seats at the front with available leather upholstery. At the same time, rear passengers enjoyed adequate legroom and headroom on the split-folding (60/40) bench seat. Even though the trunk was slightly smaller than in the sedan, it could be expanded and formed a flat loading area when the rear bench seat was lowered down.

Under the hood, the 2011 Honda Accord Tourer lost its 2.0-liter gasoline engine from the non-facelifted version in some countries but kept the other two versions: a 2.4-liter inline-four and a 2.2-liter turbodiesel. Power went to the front wheels only via either a six-speed manual available, with an option for a five-speed automatic was available.
