More than a year after the introduction of the ceed’s second generation in January 2014, the Korean automaker launched the sporty-looking pro_cee’d.

While other automakers started to ditch their three-door compact hatchbacks from lineups, Kia continued the journey for the pro_cee’d. Even though this model was based on the same platform as the cee’d, it featured a completely different styling that was sportier and more attractive for the younger generations.

Most three-door versions of European hatchbacks were, basically, the same vehicles, albeit with fewer doors. Kia, on the other hand, chose a different path. It created a new front fascia where the headlights resembled the five-door version. Yet, the grille was clearly narrower and wider. Thus, the car looked sportier. In addition, the lower bumper sported a broader grille and squarish fog lamps instead of the rounded ones fitted on its siblings, the five-door hatchback and the SW. From its profile, the ascending beltline and the lower greenhouse led to a dynamic look of the vehicle. Finally, at the back, the racked-forward tailgate and the taillights were specific for this sporty-looking vehicle.

The car’s interior echoed its exterior with the bolstered front seats and the driver-oriented dashboard. Yet, there needed to be more room in the back for more than two adults and only for short jaunts. Still, Kia didn’t leave the practicality attribute aside and provided a split-folding benchseat that expanded the trunk space, which could get from a regular 380 liters (13.4 cu-ft) up to 1,225 liters (43.2 cu-ft).

In 2013, Europeans were still very attracted by turbodiesel engines, so Kia offered the pro_cee’d with three of these powerplants to choose from and another three gasoline-powered versions.
