The ninth generation of the Honda Accord Coupe, made for the North American continent, received a mild update for the 2016 model year, which improved the car’s overall design and interior features.

When Honda introduced the ninth generation of the Accord in 2012, some technical features, such as the Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, were unavailable. Furthermore, the LED headlights were offered only on upscale, pricy vehicles. However, Honda found a way to bring both these amenities into the Accord range, even though they were available only for specific grades. In addition, after more than three years on the market, the entire lineup deserved an upgrade to keep the car’s image fresh in front of the customers and make them want one. After all, the Accord Coupe was already known for its reliability and comfort it provided.

The 2016 Honda Accord Coupe came with a revised front fascia featuring a redesigned grille that sported a single thick chromed slat over the black background. In addition, the automaker added new headlights underlined by LED daytime running lights. For the Touring grade, the automaker dared and installed full-LED lighting, which created a crispier look for the car. On the lower bumper, the automaker installed a trapezoidal-shaped air intake instead of the reversed-trapezoidal one from the non-facelifted version. In addition, it introduced a set of LED fog lamps that looked like horizontal bars.

Honda didn’t want to make the 2016 Accord Coupe too aggressive, so it didn’t shape it too sharp. Its greenhouse started with a raked windshield followed by a curved roofline and a sloped rear window. Even though it might have been mistaken for a three-door fastback, it was a genuine two-door vehicle with a separate trunk lid. But still, the two creased lines ascending from the front wheel fenders onto the doors towards the back of the vehicle were signs that the car could do more than just school runs and weekly shopping. Along with the refreshed version, the automaker included new options for 19-inch alloy wheels as well.

Inside, the bucket seats had some mild-bolstered areas, but they couldn’t be mistaken for sports seats. Between them, the automaker placed a narrow center console that housed the gear stick, or the gear selector, the handbrake, and the buttons for the heating seats. In addition, customers found a large storage compartment under the center armrest, where the automaker included a USB port. Atop the dashboard, close to the windshield, the automaker installed an eight-inch display for the car’s infotainment system. Furthermore, a secondary touchscreen adorned the center stack, which could be paired by wire with smartphones.

Under the hood, there were no surprises. The automaker placed the same engine lineup as in the previous version, with a choice between a 2.4-liter and a 3.5-liter powerplants. Customers could also get the vehicle with either a six-speed manual, a CVT, or a six-speed automatic gearbox. The latter was installed only as an option for the 3.5-liter unit. Power went to the front wheels only, and the traction control and the ABS were standard.
