After more than a decade on the market, the seventh generation of the Hilux was replaced by the eighth iteration of this nameplate, which Toyota introduced in spring 2015.

Toyota has dominated the pickup segment in Europe, Australia, and other Asian countries for almost half a century with the Hilux. Even though the pickup didn’t have a wide engine range or some fancy amenities, it convinced buyers with its reliability and sturdy underpinnings. Over the years, customers started to look at it as an alternative for their daily vehicles, especially if they lived in remote areas or where there were just muddy or dusty roads. Furthermore, the 4×4 system, the very capable drivetrain, and the payload were other attributes of the Hilux that made it a sought-after vehicle. For the eighth generation of this nameplate, Toyota tried to integrate more SUV-inspired elements on the outside and inside. In addition, the engine lineup was improved in terms of emissions and fuel efficiency. However, the car manufacturer didn’t forget about the car’s original destination as a utility vehicle and sold it in three shapes, where the Single Cab version was the base one.

Toyota designed the eighth generation of the Hilux with the SUV buyers in its mind. As a result, the front fascia of the 2015 Toyota Hilux Single Cab had wide and angular-shaped headlights swept back towards the sides in a slightly ascending line, and between them was the main grille. Depending on the grade, this was either black for the lower ones or chromed for the higher trim levels. Furthermore, the bumper was either black or body-colored.

From its profile, the 2015 Toyota Hilux Single Cab boasted a car-like cabin shape with a panoramic windshield and rounded corners. Toyota offered the vehicle either as a chassis cab or as one with a body-colored bed in the back. The former one was even available with a tilt system. At the same time, the latter featured a regular tailgate behind flanked by tall, triangular taillights. Customers also had the option to go for steel wheels or alloy ones, which was unusual for a regular working truck.

Inside, only the base trim levels resembled a utility vehicle due to a lack of features and pieces of equipment. The dashboard had curved lines and rounded corners, and the instrument cluster followed a new approach compared to its predecessors. Instead of using a binocular-styled one, the automaker chose a wide and oval panel where it placed the round dials of the speedometer and tachometer that flanked a small display between them for the onboard computer. The seats were covered in fabric, and between them, on the center console, the automaker installed a pair of cup holders and the gear stick.

Under the hood, Toyota installed a 2.4-liter turbodiesel engine paired with a six-speed manual gearbox. However, the automaker didn’t forget its hard-core offroad fans and provided the vehicle with a two-speed transfer box that could send the power to the rear or to both axles.
