Launched in November 2015 as a 2017 model year, the Cadillac XT5 came on the market to replace the former SRX. The compact SUV from the American premium brand was a big step ahead.

The rebranding from the SRX to the XT5 was somehow unusual since the SRX was already an established and known name on the market. But the new SUV had to be rebranded since it wanted to lose some of the unpleasant points from the SRX. Sometimes, a rebadge means more than a new generation.

The design was in the typical new-edge of the Cadillac models, with angular lines all over the place. On the front, the sharp-looking headlights and the big, chromed, grille were making a statement of opulence. Cadillac didn’t want to blend into the premium compact SUV market. It wanted to own it. More angular lines were drawn on the side and in the rear, to the tailgate and taillights. Even the exhaust was with angular lines.

Inside, the 2017 Cadillac XT5 featured numerous premium options and the designers were concerned to offer only high-quality materials on the touch zones. A new infotainment system with an 8” touch-screen monitor was installed. It supported Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as well. For the seating position, the flat floor allowed three passengers in the rear.

Under the hood, the XT5 was offered with a 3.6-liter V6 engine for the American market. It featured an Active Fuel Management with cylinder deactivation, so the car could run in 4-cylinder mode when coasting or under low or moderate loads. An 8-speed automatic gearbox was fitted as standard.
