    Vehicle Overview

Chevrolet launched the sixth generation of the Camaro in 2015 for the 2016 model year in Detroit, and the new model surprised its fans since it was slightly smaller than its predecessor.

GM developed the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro on a new platform shared with the Cadillac ATS. The wheelbase and the car’s overall length were slightly shorter than in the previous version. It was the first of its family with a turbocharged inline-four engine. It was a clear answer to what Ford offered in the Mustang with the 2.3-liter Ecoboost powerhouse. But GM knew its customers, so its pony car charmed everyone thanks to its look, its tech package, and its performance. Furthermore, those looking for a big V8 under the hood could have it.

At first sight, some could say that the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro was a refreshed fifth generation of this nameplate, but the car was entirely new. The redesigned front fascia integrated wide LED headlights that flanked a black and slim V-shaped grille where the brand’s badge took center stage. On the lower side, the automaker installed a tall air intake that helped to cool the engine. In addition, Chevrolet placed functional vents on the hood to release hot air from underneath it.

With its low-slung profile, the sixth generation of the Camaro proved that the automaker didn’t care too much about drivers’ rear-quarter visibility. The long nose, flat greenhouse, and short deck were the most significant design attributes of the car. All the others were details, although carefully placed on the vehicle. Behind the front wheel arches, GM installed the red-blue-white Camaro badges instead of using the nameplate. The doors were long and featured a sculptured lower area, like the previous generation of the car, while below them, a set of aerodynamically styled side skirts was available. At the back, the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro had a quad-taillight design that resembled other generations of this nameplate, including the fifth one. Depending on the grade, the lower side of the bumper was black, while the dual round exhausts were standard.

Inside, the automaker’s design team burned the midnight oil to create a much-improved cabin. The number of hard plastic areas was diminished, while the front seats had high-bolstered areas that helped keep their occupants in place. Depending on the grade and options, the sixth generation of the Camaro was available with either a mixed instrument panel, featuring two large analog dials for the speedometer and the tachometer that flanked a seven-inch color display between, or a fully digital, configurable LCD. In addition, a seven-inch touchscreen (eight-inch as an option or grade) sat atop the center stack and boasted Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. In the back, the limited legroom and headroom of the car were a problem for taller-than-average-sized people willing to sit on the profiled-for-two bench seat.

At the time of its launch, the automaker announced the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro with a choice of three engines: a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four, a fresh 3.6-liter V6, or the already known 6.2-liter V8 powerhouse. All versions were paired with either a six-speed manual or an eight-speed automatic transmission that sent all the oomph to the rear wheels via a standard or an optional limited-slip differential. Later, the automaker introduced the ZL1 version, which was a tribute to the 1967 Chevrolet Camaro with the ZL1 package.
