    Vehicle Overview

BMW launched the second generation of the 2 Series Gran Coupe just five years after it introduced this nameplate into its inventory, and the changes were significant even though the car retained its main core values.

While another German premium automaker had to pull the plug on its four-door coupe compact-sized vehicle, BMW pushed harder the skinny pedal and charged the market with a second generation of the 2 Series Gran Coupe. It unveiled it at the 2024 Paris Motor Show, but it announced that production and deliveries would follow in the spring of 2025. Even though the car was part of the 2 Series family, it didn’t share its underpinnings with the Coupe or the Cabriolet version. While those two versions were based on rear-wheel drive architectures, the 2025 BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe was built on a front-wheel drive one.

Right off the bat, the car had a more aggressive stance, sporting the famous kidney grille placed lower on the front fascia, like on most supercars. Its swept-back headlights were positioned higher, flanking part of the hood and the upper side of the wrapped-around plastic bumper. Lower, on the apron, the automaker installed a second broad air intake to help cool the engine. Those looking for a sportier look could opt for an M-package or even for the M-version, which had a more dramatic look because of its piano-black specific trims, with an A-shaped wide lower grille.

From its sides, the bodywork resembled the 2020 BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe. However, on the second iteration of this nameplate, BMW focused on a sportier look. As a result, the arched roofline was sloped even more towards the back of the car. In addition, the Hofmeister kick design element placed behind the rear doors featured a similar design to the car’s bigger sibling, the 4 Series Gran Coupe. Depending on the trim and options, the 2025 BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe could be fitted with 19-inch light-alloy wheels wrapped in high-performance tires. At the same time, the lower grades ran on 17-inch ones. The German car manufacturer considered that the 2.67 m (105 inches) wheelbase of the previous generation of the 2 Series was adequate for a subcompact four-door coupe vehicle and kept it on the 2025 model year as well. However, the car was slightly longer, thanks to the extended front and rear overhangs. Finally, the car had a short trunk lid at the back that opened without the rear window. Unlike its 4 Series stablemate, it wasn’t a hatchback but a sedan.

Inside, the automaker installed almost the same cabin as in the 2024 BMW 1 Series that the car manufacturer unveiled in the summer of 2024. Fronting the driver was a 10.25” display that showed the most important data about driving and navigation. In addition, atop the center stack, BMW installed a 10.7-inch touchscreen featuring BMW Operating System 9. As expected, it allowed wireless mobile phone connectivity via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Customers could choose from fabric, microfiber, leather, or Alcantara upholstery. Furthermore, a set of high-bolstered bucket seats with integrated headrests was available. In the back, the 2025 BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe featured a split-folding (40/20/40) bench seat that could expand the 430 liters (15.2 cu-ft) trunk space (360 liters or 12.8 cu-ft for the 2025 BMW 220 Gran Coupe and the 2025 BMW 220 d Gran Coupe due to the 48-volt mild-hybrid system).

At the time of launch, the automaker announced that the 2025 BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe would be powered by turbocharged inline-four engines paired with seven-speed automatic (dual-clutch) transmissions. At the lower end of the scale, the car manufacturer placed the 218 diesel, followed by the 220 d mild-hybrid and the 220 (gasoline) mild-hybrid versions. All these versions sent their oomph to the front wheels only. Those looking for a sportier version were not left behind. BMW offered an M235 version of the car, featuring a 300 PS (296 hp) all-wheel drive system that could rocket from naught to 100 kph (0-62 mph) in 4.9 seconds.
