    Vehicle Overview

BMW introduced the second generation of the M2 in April 2023, and in the summer of 2024, it unveiled an upgraded version of it, with available three-pedal setup.

It was unusual for the German automaker to launch an updated version of a car just a year after the introduction of that model. However, with the M2, it broke the rules book and did it. It would be an understatement that nobody expected it. In a way, the brand’s fans could consider that the car manufacturer was cooking an M2 CS or an M2 Competition, similar to those available on its predecessor. But no, BMW launched the 2025 model year with significant, albeit hard-to-see, upgrades.

At the front, the M2 was polarizing with its angular-shaped air intakes and the kidney grille, but that didn’t stop customers from buying it. They already knew they shouldn’t judge a car by its covers, and those who dared to purchase one didn’t regret it. The 2025 model year came with the same straight lines and clear corners. Its standard LED headlights comprised the high and low beams in the same block of light-emitting diodes placed on the outer side of the front fascia and underlined by an angular-shaped daytime running light stripe that doubled as a turn signal. Lower, the three-split apron featured the same broad rectangular air intake in the middle flanked by massive scoops on the sides that cooled the brakes. A keen eye for detail could spot the slightly larger M2 badge on the kidney grille.

From the sides, the 2025 BMW M2 had the same low-slung appearance with a long hood, a short greenhouse, and a flat rear deck. The car came with standard 19-inch wheels at the front and 20 inches on the rear axle, which were available in a few design themes, including one that was unique for this model. Since the car had wider tracks, the automaker flared the fenders to allow that increase compared to the standard 2 Series coupe. Between them, BMW installed aerodynamically-profiled side sills that reduced the ground effect. Finally, at the back, the four exhausts grouped by two on each side sported black tips fitted as standard.

Inside, the automaker shuffled the options list so customers could customize their vehicles according to their needs and tastes. Drivers fronted a flat-bottom steering wheel fitted with two red buttons for the M-assigned functions, which could be leather-wrapped or Alcantara-covered. Both versions could also be fitted with heating. Furthermore, they could get carbon-fiber sports seats instead of the standard high-bolstered ones. Previously, these were part of a specific package. In the back, nothing was changed. There was the same leather-covered bench seat fit for two adults.

However, the most significant upgrade happened under the hood. There, the automaker installed the same S58 turbocharged engine as on the model introduced in April 2023, but with more power. As a result, the 2025 BMW M2 was quicker in the 0-62 mph (0-100 kph) sprint than its predecessor. Customers got the eight-speed automatic transmission (Steptronic) fitted as standard, while a six-speed manual was on the options list. BMW offered a three-pedal version of the car for those who wanted to feel more engaged while driving the compact premium sports sedan. The car also had adaptive dampers and steering, and those behind the wheel could adjust the brake-pedal feedback effort.
